NHAJ marked the end of another successful year at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle. The annual business meeting and a meeting of the newly elected Board of Governors were followed by cocktails, dinner and awards. (For more information about this year's awards, see below.) We were pleased to welcome United States Senator John Edwards of North Carolina as our keynote speaker. A trial lawyer for more than 20 years, Edwards currently seeks the Democratic nomination for the Presidency. He spoke to the assembled group of approximately 150 members and guests about what he believes are the essential issues facing the United States today. He also relfect on the many difficulties of being a trial lawyer; he encouraged those present to take heart from and to emulate the courage and determination shown by so many badly injured clients and families. Later in the evening, new President Timothy C. Coughlin took office, thanking outgoing President Paul A. Maggiotto for his service. Attorney Maggiotto, in return, shared some observations about what has made the Association successful and exhorted the membership to continue its efforts in organization, communication and advocacy.
